Poland Eyes Permanent US Military Base

The United States and Poland have made progress in talks over the possible establishment of a permanent US military base. Polish Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said that if the project goes ahead, the base will be located in western Poland.

Last week, US officials surveyed potential sites and visited Poznan and Powidz in western Poland.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that “progress is being made” toward establishing a permanent US Army base and that its location could be announced soon.

Warsaw has long sought a greater allied presence on NATO’s eastern flank and intensified its efforts following Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine in 2022.

No final decision has yet been made. In June, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said the US Department of Defense had responded positively to Poland’s proposal for a permanent US military presence.
