North Korea Fires Unidentified Projectile

North Korea fired an object that appeared to be a ballistic missile into the sea east of the Korean Peninsula on Sunday, according to the Japanese ministry of defense.

The South Korean ministry of defense said North Korea had launched an unidentified projectile. Japanese public broadcaster NHK later reported that the projectile landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

A day earlier, North Korea rejected, in a statement released through state media, a UN nuclear watchdog resolution targeting Pyongyang's nuclear program.

Last week, it also condemned a US-led naval exercise near Guam, held from 29 August to 10 September and joined by South Korea and Japan.
