Russian Election Turnout Exceeds 45%

Turnout in elections at all levels in Russia exceeded 45%, Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), announced on Sunday. More than six million voters used electronic voting, she added, the Interfax news agency reports.

Online voting is available on the federal platform in 32 regions. The ministry of digital development had earlier stated that turnout among voters registered for remote electronic voting reached about 85%, or 3.4 million people.

Another 2.8 million voters in Moscow used electronic or remote voting. "So, in total, as you can see, the number of those who voted remotely via electronic voting already exceeds 6 million", Pamfilova said.

She noted that residents of one of the settlements in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug voted via an internet connection provided by low-Earth orbit satellites.

Elections for the ninth State Duma, along with other regional and local elections, are taking place from 18 to 20 September. According to CEC data, turnout for the State Duma elections reached 40.79% after just the second day of voting.
