Christian Leaders Unite Against Chemical Abortions

A group of American Christian leaders has called on lawmakers to ban the use of the abortion pill mifepristone. The initiative has the backing of Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri. The Declaration for Life was drafted by more than 30 pastors and, according to the organizers, was signed by about 100 religious leaders and 50,000 citizens, Eternal Word Television Network News reports.

The document backs legislation restricting abortions and stresses the protection of human life from conception. Hawley said the initiative aims to encourage Christians to oppose chemical abortions publicly.

Meanwhile, the group Students for Life of America has launched a campaign at 150 universities to raise awareness of the consequences of abortion.

The issue also remains prominent at state level. In Missouri, a constitutional amendment on abortion will be put to a vote in November. In California, a bill awaiting the governor's signature would require community colleges with health centers to provide medication abortions from 2029.

Disputes over abortion legislation are also continuing in Wisconsin and Idaho, where legal proceedings and discussions on the conditions under which abortions are performed are taking place.
