United Russia on Track to Win Parliamentary Election
Russia's ruling party, United Russia, is headed for an easy victory in the parliamentary elections with 57.5% of the vote, the Central Election Commission said on Sunday after nearly 14% of the votes had been counted.
President Vladimir Putin has described the elections as a test of support for the war in Ukraine. Critics argue that the country's tightly controlled political system does not tolerate dissenting views.
The Kremlin, by contrast, believes that national unity and a certain degree of censorship are necessary during what it calls its "special military operation" in Ukraine.
