Macron and Trump Discuss Moratorium on Energy Strikes

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with US President Donald Trump initiatives aimed at securing a moratorium between Ukraine and Russia on attacks linked to the energy sector.

After the meeting, Macron described the talks on the conflict as very good and constructive. The two leaders agreed on the need for faster, stronger support to help Kyiv bolster its defenses.

“We had a lengthy discussion on Ukraine and Russia, the need to help our Ukrainian friends more quickly and more strongly in terms of interceptors, because that is the key issue from a defensive point of view”, Macron said.

Macron did not disclose details of the proposal to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. He planned to raise the issue later on Monday during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The French president said aid to Ukraine’s energy system remained a priority as the war continued to affect security across Europe.

Macron also expressed hope that progress could be made during the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.
