Prof. Dr. Susanne Schröter, born in 1957, is a German ethnologist. She lectured and researched at the University of Chicago, Yale University, the University of Mainz, and the University of Trier, among others. Since 2004, she has held the Chair of Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Passau, and since 2008 she has been Professor of “Ethnology of Colonial and Postcolonial Orders” at Goethe University Frankfurt. From 2014 to 2025, she headed the Frankfurt Research Center for Global Islam. Schröter is a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Oriental Institute, a member of the Senate of the German National Foundation, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Agency for Adult Education. She has published numerous books, including “Der neue Kulturkampf. Wie eine woke Linke Wissenschaft, Kultur und Gesellschaft bedroht” (The New Culture War: How a Woke Left Threatens Science, Culture, and Society) (2024) and “Allahs Karawane.
