South Korea is close to concluding negotiations on the release of citizens detained in the US

The South Korean presidential office has confirmed that negotiations for the release of South Korean workers arrested during a large-scale immigration raid in the US are in the final stages.

According to the Yonhap news agency, a charter flight to Georgia is ready to depart as soon as the necessary administrative formalities have been completed. The South Korean government also plans to improve the visa system to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The raid by US immigration authorities at the Hyundai-LG factory in Georgia led to the arrest of about 475 workers, most of whom are South Korean citizens. The incident sparked diplomatic tensions between the US and South Korea, especially given the sensitivity of trade relations and investments.

The South Korean government has set up a crisis team to resolve the situation and sent its diplomats to the US to secure the release of its detained compatriots as quickly as possible and minimize the impact on the company's operations and the workers' families.
