US President Donald Trump has announced that he is prepared to initiate a second phase of sanctions against Russia. This move could put further pressure on Moscow or its oil partners, with Trump's growing frustration over the ongoing war in Ukraine behind the decision.
Although he has threatened sanctions several times in the past, he has avoided them in the interests of negotiations. Now, however, his rhetoric has taken on a tougher tone, even if the details of the “second phase” are still unclear.
When asked by a journalist, he replied laconically: “Yes, I am.”
Since taking office, Trump has promised a quick end to the conflict, but the reality has been different. His comments could signal a change in the White House's stance, which has so far tended to favor diplomacy.
However, it remains unclear whether this is merely a warning or a genuine shift in US policy toward Russia.
