Trump urges prosecutors to investigate his rivals
US President Donald Trump has openly called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate his political rivals more intensively. According to the BBC, he addressed her directly on social media, stating that there was “no time to lose.”
He also named specific individuals: former FBI Director James Comey, Senator Adam Schiff, who oversaw his first impeachment proceedings, and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump expressed his frustration that “nothing is happening” and later praised Bondi for her work.
His comments were immediately met with criticism from Democrats. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned that the president was turning the Justice Department into an instrument of political revenge – a step “towards dictatorship.”
Trump, however, emphasized that Bondi could be considered one of the best attorneys general.
His pressure came shortly after U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert resigned because he refused to initiate criminal proceedings against Letitia James for alleged mortgage fraud.
According to the New York Times, the investigation had not produced sufficient evidence. James, who won a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump a year ago, dismissed the allegations as baseless and motivated by revenge.
