Kremlin: We are strengthening the army, but remain open to peace talks

The Kremlin responded to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's statement that the US must prepare for war by saying that Russia is also strengthening its armed forces, but remains open to peace talks.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Moscow supports the resolution of conflicts—including the Ukraine crisis—through diplomatic channels.

He also referred to an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with Axios, in which the Ukrainian head of state indicated his willingness to regain the territories exclusively through diplomatic means.

However, Peskov stated that talks with Kyiv are currently suspended. In his opinion, the Ukrainian side is not willing to compromise and is accusing Moscow of making demands tantamount to surrender.
