Police suspect that a victim in Manchester was shot by their own officers
According to police, one of the victims of Thursday's attack outside a synagogue in Manchester was shot dead while attempting to apprehend the unarmed attacker.
“We currently believe that the suspect, Dschihad al-Schamie, was not carrying a firearm and that the only shots fired were by an officer from the Manchester Police armed unit,” local police said on Friday.
“It follows, subject to further forensic investigation, that this injury may unfortunately have been a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgent intervention by my officers to stop this brutal attack.”
Police added that one of the injured individuals currently being treated in hospital also suffered a gunshot wound. Both individuals, who are believed to have been hit by bullets, were behind the doors of the synagogue.
