Friedrich Merz supported Trump's peace plan in a phone call with Netanyahu
In a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his “full support” for President Donald Trump's peace plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza, reports the Times of Israel.
Merz emphasized that the current negotiations must lead to a swift agreement on ending the fighting, freeing hostages, ensuring unrestricted humanitarian access, and disarming Hamas.
The chancellor described the plan as “the best chance for peace” almost two years after the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, and welcomed the announced withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Merz also called on Hamas to agree to the plan and enable peace in the region as soon as possible. Germany is prepared to support the implementation of the plan politically, humanitarily, and financially.
