Prime Minister Lecornu: Dissolution of parliament seems less likely
Acting French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Wednesday that the “possibility of dissolving parliament appears less likely” after holding a series of talks with political parties in the National Assembly.
According to Lecornu, the talks showed that there was a general willingness to pass the state budget by the end of the year, which would also increase political stability in the country.
The common will of the parties involved creates room for agreement and stability, thereby reducing the likelihood of the legislative body being dissolved, Lecornu continued. He announced that he would meet with President Emmanuel Macron later on Wednesday to discuss the results of the talks with the parties.
The government currently does not have a clear majority in the French National Assembly. This is causing uncertainty regarding the passage of the budget, which Lecornu said is crucial for the continuation of government programs and investments.
