Drones and missiles strike Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, leaving 45,000 households without power

A Russian attack on Kyiv in the early hours of Friday morning caused a fire in a high-rise building and severe damage to energy infrastructure. This led to power and water outages on the east bank of the Dnieper River. Twelve people were injured, eight of whom were taken to hospital.

Debris from drones fell on several parts of the city, disrupting subway service and leading to temporary distance learning in some schools.

In Zaporizhzhia, rockets and drones hit residential buildings. A seven-year-old boy was killed and four other people were injured. Around 28,000 households in Kyiv and 17,000 in the Poltava region were left without power.

The energy minister said that energy workers are taking all necessary steps to minimize the damage.

The attacks come at the start of the approaching winter months, with Russia deliberately targeting Ukrainian energy facilities – which could further worsen living conditions for the civilian population during the cold season.
