Nobel Committee puts politics above peace, says White House spokesperson

White House spokesman Steven Cheung criticized the Nobel Committee's decision on Friday to award the Peace Prize to the Venezuelan opposition leader instead of US President Donald Trump.

“President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives. He has the heart of a humanist, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” he said in a post on Platform X.

He later added, “The Nobel Committee has proven that it puts politics above peace.”

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her courageous fight for democracy in a country that has long suffered under authoritarian rule.

Trump had campaigned intensively for the award and just this week announced an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages that is intended to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

The president himself has not yet commented on the Nobel Committee's decision, but on Friday morning he posted three videos on his Truth Social platform showing his supporters celebrating the Gaza agreement.
