Qatari representatives killed in accident on their way to peace summit in Gaza

The Qatari embassy in Egypt confirmed that three employees of the Amiri Diwan government institution were killed in a serious traffic accident near the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

According to security sources, the car carrying the Qatari diplomats overturned on a bend about 50 kilometers from the city. Two other passengers were injured and are currently in a local hospital.

The bodies of the victims and the injured are to be returned to Doha on Sunday.

The tragedy occurred just days after Qatari representatives took part in indirect negotiations with Turkey and Egypt in Sharm, during which a preliminary agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas.

A global summit is scheduled to take place in the same city the following day, where this plan to end the war in Gaza is to be further concretized.
