Starmer travels to summit in Egypt to thank Trump in person

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will attend a peace summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday. The main goal of the meeting is to formally confirm the agreement brokered by the United States that aims to end the long-standing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The first phase will involve the exchange of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, which has been described by several countries as a historic breakthrough.

Starmer plans to highlight the role of US President Donald Trump and the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey during the negotiations.

At the same time, he wants to call for further international coordination in sending observer missions and preparing a transitional administration in Gaza.

According to him, the UK remains a strong supporter of the ceasefire and humanitarian aid in the region.
