Russian soldiers on a road in Estonia. The authorities have closed the border crossing

Estonia has temporarily closed access to the road that runs through Saatse Boot, a small exclave of Russian territory located in Estonia, reports ABC News.

The reason for this was the appearance of a group of about ten Russian soldiers who stood directly on the road. This road is normally used by Estonian citizens.

The Estonian authorities described this as a preventive measure to avoid incidents and protect the population. Interior Minister Igor Taro assured that the situation was calm and that there was no immediate danger of conflict.

The Russian soldiers have since left the area, but the road will remain closed until at least Tuesday. The incident increases tensions in the region, which is on high alert after several violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones and aircraft.
