Washington accuses Beijing of “show of force,” tough tariffs loom

US Trade Representative Jamison Greer said Washington had tried to contact Beijing after China announced the expansion of its export restrictions on rare earth metals, but the Chinese side had refused to engage in talks.

Greer described Beijing's move to Fox News as a “show of force” and emphasized that the United States had not been informed of the decision in advance.

Washington's response was swift—President Donald Trump announced on Friday the introduction of 100% tariffs on all Chinese exports to the US.

He also announced new restrictions on the export of “any critical software” to China, which are set to take effect on November 1.
