Advisor to the Polish president: Attack on Nord Stream served NATO's interests
Polish security adviser Sławomir Cenckiewicz has called on Germany to drop criminal proceedings against Ukrainians suspected of sabotaging the Nord Stream pipeline. According to the Financial Times, he described the attack as an act that deserved understanding rather than punishment.
However, Cenckiewicz, who heads the Polish Office for National Security and is a key adviser to President Karol Nawrocki, claims that prosecuting individuals who have undermined the “source of income for the Russian war machine” is contrary to the interests of Poland and NATO.
According to him, prosecuting the Nord Stream saboteurs could serve the German judiciary, but also “Russian injustice.”
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made similar comments on the case, stating that the problem lies in the construction of Nord Stream 2 itself, not in its destruction.
Even though Poland denies any cooperation with Ukraine in the attack, Cenckiewicz emphasized that the country should “protect everyone” who may have been involved in the sabotage.
