Hungary rejects EU plan to cut off Russian gas by 2027
Hungary has once again opposed the European Union's energy policy. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó emphasized at the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow that Budapest rejects any external pressure on energy issues.
According to him, Hungary's national interest is clear: to ensure a stable and affordable energy supply, including Russian natural gas.
He was responding to the European Commission's proposal to end all deliveries of Russian natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to EU countries by the end of 2027.
Szijjártó warned that a loss of access to Russian gas would be felt not only by industry but also by ordinary citizens.
Budapest is increasingly distancing itself from the Union's common energy goals, a stance strongly influenced by the country's long-standing dependence on Russian energy sources.
