Ukraine introduces nationwide restrictions on electricity supply
Ukraine introduced nationwide restrictions on electricity supply on Thursday. According to the state grid operator Ukrenerho, the reason for this is the intensification of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and the drop in temperature.
Russian units struck gas industry facilities in the east of the country early Thursday morning, causing widespread disruptions to the power grid.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia launched more than 300 attack drones, including drones with cluster munitions, and fired 37 missiles during the night. According to him, Russian forces are attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure on a daily basis.
“In view of the difficult situation in the energy system, electricity supplies have been interrupted in all regions as an emergency measure,” said the company Ukrenerho. The outages are planned so that electricity is distributed evenly, while the authorities are calling on the population to save energy.
After Thursday's attacks, the operator reported emergency shutdowns in eight regions. Media reports say that around 60 percent of natural gas production has been damaged and attacks on power plants have left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity.
