Trump's former adviser is being prosecuted, president calls him a “bad person”
John Bolton, former national security advisor to US President Donald Trump, faces allegations of illegal handling of classified documents. According to the Department of Justice, he is said to have used personal emails to send more than a thousand pages of top-secret notes from his time in government.
In connection with the investigation, the FBI searched his home and office.
Bolton denies any wrongdoing and claims that this is an attempt by Trump to intimidate his opponents. He also points out that some of the allegations have already been dismissed in the past.
After leaving the White House, the former advisor became a fierce critic of Trump's foreign policy. The president then called him a “bad person” and said he knew nothing about the allegations.
The dispute between them escalated with the publication of Bolton's book, which the Trump administration tried to prevent from being released because it allegedly contained classified information. After returning to office, Trump also revoked Bolton's security clearance.
