Tehran has announced the end of the nuclear agreement. It claims that it remains open to diplomacy

Iran declared on Saturday that it was no longer bound by restrictions on its nuclear program following the expiration of the landmark 10-year agreement between it and world powers. Tehran reaffirmed its “commitment to diplomacy.”

As the Alarabiya portal noted, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the day the agreement expired that “all provisions of the 2015 agreement, including restrictions on Iran's nuclear program and related mechanisms, are considered terminated.”

This agreement, which restricted Iran's uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, has been weakened in recent years, primarily by the withdrawal of the US under Donald Trump in 2018. In response, Tehran gradually reduced its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and expanded its nuclear activities.

According to the UK, Germany, and France, which are parties to the agreement along with China and Russia, Iran has built up uranium stocks that are about 40 times higher than permitted.

The White House chief warned in July this year that the US would intervene “faster than you can wave your hand” if Iran resumed development.
