The Rafah border crossing is reopening, Palestinians can return to Gaza

The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, which has been largely closed since May 2024, will reopen on Monday. This was announced by the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt.

The opening applies exclusively to passenger traffic – primarily Palestinians living in Egypt who want to return to Gaza.

The embassy in Cairo asked interested parties to register in advance and promised to inform them about the details of the crossing.

The Israeli authority COGAT confirmed the preparations for the opening, but pointed out that the border crossing may not be used for the transport of humanitarian aid. This is therefore a limited but significant step towards facilitating mobility for civilians in the region.
