Trump: Putin will take something because he fought for it – Ukraine should give in
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Donald Trump once again hinted that he was not prepared to send further weapons to Ukraine. “We need them ourselves,” explained the President of the United States.
He said this shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Washington to exert greater pressure on Vladimir Putin. He described Putin as stronger than Hamas.
According to the Independent newspaper, Trump indicated that he expects Ukraine to make territorial concessions as part of a possible peace agreement that his administration could broker between Kyiv and Moscow. Putin will “take something because the Russians fought and conquered certain territories,” Trump said.
In recent days, Trump met with Zelensky in person at the White House, where they also discussed territorial concessions. The US president is said to have already discussed this with Putin, who, according to the Washington Post, has signaled his willingness to withdraw from parts of the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson if Kiev hands over the entire Donetsk region.
The Russian and American presidents are expected to meet in person soon at a summit in Budapest. A specific date has not yet been announced.
