Lavrov: Russia's conditions for peace in Ukraine have not changed since August
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that Moscow had not changed its conditions for peace in Ukraine since the August summit between President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. He added that the location and timing of the next summit were less important than the implementation of the agreements reached in Anchorage, Alaska.
Lavrov was responding to a CNN report that the planned meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had been temporarily suspended. “I officially confirm that Russia has not changed its position compared to the agreements reached during the Alaska summit,” Lavrov said.
According to him, lasting peace is only possible if the causes of the conflict are eliminated. Russia's conditions include Ukraine's neutral status, guarantees for Russian-speaking residents, and a commitment by the West to halt NATO's eastward expansion.
The Kremlin confirmed that the date for the next summit has not yet been set.
