The Louvre Museum reopened its doors to the public

The Louvre Museum in Paris reopened on Wednesday. However, the Apollo Gallery, from which thieves stole historic royal jewelry worth around €88 million, remains closed.

Some politicians consider this a national disgrace. On Sunday, four people broke into the Louvre with the help of a crane, smashing a window on the upper floor. They stole items from the royal jewel gallery and then fled on motorcycles.

Among the eight stolen pieces of jewelry were a crown and earrings from the early 19th-century set belonging to Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense. Empress Eugénie's crown was found in front of the museum – it had probably fallen off during the escape. The police are searching for the perpetrators.
