Russian troops are said to be gaining the upper hand in Pokrovsk. What tactics are they using?

“Russian invasion forces have captured about 85 percent of Pokrovsk, with no signs of a Ukrainian ‘counteroffensive’ in the north of the city that would change the situation on the ground,” German security journalist Julian Röpcke wrote on social media on Tuesday.

He finds it remarkable that there have been no videos of fighting, bombing, or drone flights from the city center so far, nor any stunts involving the raising of flags.

The German magazine Spiegel also reports on the situation in Pokrovsk, according to which the Russians are gradually infiltrating this strategically important city. According to Ukrainian soldiers, "enemy groups are scattered throughout the city, although Ukrainian troops are holding their positions in the south. The Russian presence is estimated at 200 to 300 soldiers.

The Russian soldiers are using unusual tactics. They split into small groups and move through gaps in the Ukrainian lines. This strategy is often used in drone warfare. Some Russian soldiers even pose as civilians.
