Trump says he is 'obliged' to sue BBC for edited speech

Donald Trump, President of the USA, announced that he is "obliged to take legal action against the British television channel BBC" for the way it edited his speech in the Panorama documentary.

Trump told Fox News that his January 6, 2021, appearance was "disfigured" and he considers it a fraud on viewers. These are his first public comments after his lawyers delivered a letter to the BBC demanding a retraction of the documentary, an apology and compensation of one billion dollars.

BBC chairman Samir Shah has already admitted an "error of judgement" in editing the speech. Speaking on The Ingraham Angle, Trump noted that if the BBC does not intervene, he has, in his own words, a "duty" to take legal action.

He claims his original speech was peaceful, but the editing in the documentary portrayed it as radical. "I have to do it because you can't allow things like this to go unanswered," Trump declared.

The BBC confirmed that it received the letter from Trump's lawyers on Sunday and is currently investigating the claims. Director-General Tim Davie and News Director Deborah Turness have already resigned from their positions in this regard.
