Meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, the G7 and the European Union agreed that the document contains important elements necessary for lasting peace.

However, they also warned of risks, in particular the limitations on the size of the Ukrainian army, which could increase its vulnerability. The leaders insisted that borders must not be changed by force and any proposals encroaching on the competences of the Union and NATO would require their agreement. Donald Trump's administration boycotted the summit.

At the same time, the President of the European Council, António Costa, announced that he has called an extraordinary meeting of all 27 European Union leaders for Monday, which will take place on the sidelines of the EU-Africa summit in Luanda.

The aim is to discuss the US peace plan, Costa confirmed in a statement on the social network X that the EU is ready to actively participate in peace efforts.
