North Korea introduces compulsory Russian from fourth grade
The Russian language has become a compulsory subject in the schools of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea from Grade 4, according to Russian Minister Alexander Kozlov. This is another sign of deepening relations between Moscow and Pyongyang.
As TASS news agency reports, Kozlov also said that more than three thousand children in Russia are already learning Korean, mostly as a second or third foreign language.
The Russian side is also planning to establish a Russian-language Open Education Center in North Korea, which is to operate from 2026 at the Kim Chol Cho Pedagogical University. Its building is currently under construction.
