After Afghan attack on National Guard, Trump wants to stop migration from "third world countries"
US President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will "permanently suspend" migration from all "third world countries".
Trump did not specify which countries he considers to be "third world", nor exactly how he plans to suspend migration. However, he has stated that he will revoke all federal benefits for non-citizens, denaturalize migrants "undermining domestic tranquility," and deport those he deems to be security risks or "incompatible with Western civilization."
The plan is related to the attack at the White House in which a National Guard member was shot, which the president says is a result of immigration vetting failures during the Joe Biden administration. Another officer who was shot is also fighting for his life.
The Afghan attacker entered the U.S. in 2021 as part of Biden's resettlement program following the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Trump says the program has allowed hundreds of thousands of unscreened people to enter.
Meanwhile, US immigration authorities have suspended processing applications from Afghan citizens.
