Putin would prefer to meet Trump in Budapest

Russian President Vladimir Putin told Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during a visit to Moscow on Friday that he would like to choose Budapest as the venue for a potential meeting with US President Donald Trump.

In Moscow, Orbán is discussing with the Kremlin chief not only peace in Ukraine but also oil and gas supplies.

A meeting between Trump and Putin was originally planned for October. However, it is currently postponed due to disagreements over the terms of the ceasefire in Ukraine. According to a White House official, "there are no plans" for a meeting between the presidents in the near future.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has previously stressed that more important than the location of the meeting is the progress in implementing the agreements from the August meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska.

The White House chief also acknowledged that he does not want to waste time if the meeting does not produce a result.
