Putin accepts part of US peace plan, but full deal is missing
Peace talks on Ukraine remain open after the Moscow meeting. US President Donald Trump said the way forward was unclear, although he described Russian President Vladimir Putin's talks with US envoys as "pretty good".
Putin, he said, had accepted some of the US proposals to end the war, but considered others unacceptable, and negotiations were continuing.
Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner spent several hours in the Kremlin without a concrete breakthrough on ending the war. Trump said after a phone briefing with the two that their impression was that Putin wanted to strike a deal, but stressed that it takes both sides to get a result.
Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian officials in Miami on Thursday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that during the first meeting, Moscow accepted some points of the proposals but rejected others, and they have not yet found a compromise.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his team was preparing for further talks in the United States and the dialogue with U.S. representatives would continue.
