EU summit on Greenland to be held on Thursday
European Council President António Costa announced on Sunday that he will convene an extraordinary summit of European Union leaders in the coming days. The topic will be the Union's joint response to US President Donald Trump's statement threatening to impose tariffs on European allies if they do not allow the United States to buy Greenland.
Costa, who chairs European Council meetings, said on social media that consultations with member states had shown strong EU unity in support of Denmark and Greenland.
At the same time, he emphasized the Union's readiness to defend itself against any form of pressure, while the EU wants to continue to engage in constructive dialogue with the United States.
According to an unnamed EU official, the extraordinary summit should take place in person on Thursday.
