Trump plans ceremonial signing of Peace Council in Davos
US President Donald Trump plans to unveil an ambitious US-led alternative to the UN during the Davos forum, ABC News reports.
Although approximately 25 countries, including Israel, Hungary, and Turkey, have signed up to the project, none of the major European allies have supported the initiative.
Critics consider it geopolitically problematic and potentially competitive with the UN. Trump claims that the council will "do the work that the UN should have done" and will be able to resolve global conflicts.
Trump could remain chairman of the council for life. Membership is to last three years, but countries that contribute a billion dollars will gain permanent membership.
Russia has also been invited. Putin has indicated that he could contribute from frozen assets.
