Moscow ignores US tariffs, will supply Cuba with oil
Russia will continue to supply oil to Cuba in the coming period. This was confirmed to the Russian state agency RIA by Ambassador Viktor Coronelli in Havana, who said that Moscow is relying on the practice of recent years and sees no reason to change it.
The statement comes at a sensitive time, with increasing pressure from the United States. US President Donald Trump has announced that Washington has begun negotiations with Cuba's top officials and has designated the island as an extraordinary threat to US national security.
At the same time, he threatened to impose tariffs on all countries that supply oil to Cuba.
The United States has already taken several measures to restrict the flow of oil to the island, including supplies from Venezuela. According to available data, these steps have significantly exacerbated Cuba's economic problems.
The result is rising food and transportation prices, severe fuel shortages, and frequent power outages, which also affect the capital, Havana. Russia thus appears to be one of the few stable energy suppliers for this country.
