Mass rally in Berlin calls for regime change in Iran
Thousands of people gathered in Berlin on Saturday to express solidarity with the ongoing uprisings in Iran. The protest took place on the anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and followed recent nationwide unrest in the country, which began in December over economic issues but quickly took on a political character.
According to Berlin police, approximately 8,000 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate, although organizers claim that the number was significantly higher and that thousands more were unable to attend due to canceled flights. The event was supported by hundreds of organizations, trade unions, and political initiatives from several European countries, as well as dozens of Iranian associations operating in Europe.
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also joined the rally online. According to the speakers, the aim of the protest was clear: to reject violence and foreign intervention, while calling for regime change by the Iranian people themselves.
