Trump met with his Honduran protégé at Mar-a-Lago

US President Donald Trump met with Honduran President Nasry Asfur at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach.

Trump said that the countries have a close partnership on security and are working together to "combat dangerous cartels and drug traffickers and deport illegal migrants and gang members from the United States."

"I had a very important meeting with my friend, President Nasry 'Tito' Asfura of Honduras," he also wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Asfura, a conservative businessman and former mayor of the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, was sworn in last week.

He won the election in November, with Trump's support helping him to victory. The US president threatened that if his "friend" lost, he would reduce aid to the poorest country in Central America.
