After the budget was approved, Lecornu focused on the core, defense, and state reform.

After resolving lengthy disputes over the 2026 budget, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu presented his government's main priorities.

He identified energy, defense, and reform of the functioning of the state as key areas. In the field of energy, he confirmed that the state-owned company EDF will build six new nuclear reactors, with the possibility of expanding to more, while the government also wants to maintain ambitious investments in renewable sources.

The goal is for electricity to account for 60 percent of energy consumption by 2030. In the area of defense, Lecornu emphasized the continued increase in the military budget, which is set to double by 2027 compared to 2017. He also announced an update to the military program law by July 14.

Lecornu also wants to strengthen decentralization and maintain state health care for migrants, albeit with measures to prevent abuse of the system.
