Russia claims that Ukraine was behind the assassination attempt on a high-ranking general

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claims that the men suspected of shooting a senior Russian military intelligence officer have confessed that they were acting on orders from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The target of Friday's attack was Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, deputy head of the GRU, who regained consciousness after the operation.

Ukraine has denied involvement in the assassination. According to the FSB, the main suspect, Ukrainian citizen Ljubomir Korba, who holds a Russian passport, was interrogated after his extradition from Dubai. Together with his alleged accomplice, Viktor Vasin, they reportedly confessed and stated that they carried out the attack on behalf of the SBU.

The FSB claims that Korba was recruited in August 2025 in Ternopil, underwent training in Kiev, and received monthly payments in cryptocurrency. He was allegedly promised a reward of $30,000 for killing Alexeyev.

Moscow also hinted at the involvement of the Polish intelligence service. However, it did not disclose any evidence, and the allegations could not be independently verified.
