NATO is preparing a mission to the Arctic, set to launch this week

NATO is apparently preparing to launch a new mission called Arctic Sentry in the coming days, which is intended to strengthen the Alliance's surveillance and military capabilities in the Arctic. According to several Reuters sources, it could be officially announced as early as this week during a meeting of defense ministers in Brussels.

The mission is to include military exercises, more intensive reconnaissance, and the deployment of drones, ships, and aircraft, but without a significant increase in the number of troops. NATO emphasizes that the goal is to make more effective use of existing resources in the region.

The launch of Arctic Sentry comes at a time of heightened tension following disputes between US President Donald Trump and European allies over Greenland.

The alliance also points to Russia's growing military activity and China's increasing interest in the so-called High North. According to the commander of allied forces in Europe, planning is in its final stages.
