Trump is seeking to break up the EU, Macron said

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that Europe should prepare for further conflicts with the US and see the recent "Greenland moment" as a warning signal to push through long-delayed economic reforms and strengthen the bloc's global power.

"When there is a clear act of aggression, I think we should not submit or try to reach an agreement. I think we have been trying this strategy for months. It doesn't work," Macron told several newspapers, including Le Monde and the Financial Times.

Macron said that the Trump administration is "openly anti-European" and seeks to "break up" the EU.

"The US will attack us in the coming months—that's for sure—in relation to digital regulation," Macron added, warning of potential import tariffs by US President Donald Trump if the EU uses its digital services law to control technology companies.

The French leader also renewed his call for new joint loans, such as Eurobonds, arguing that this would allow the EU to invest on a large scale and challenge the hegemony of the US dollar.

EU leaders will meet in Brussels on Thursday for a summit to discuss measures to strengthen the EU economy and improve its ability to compete with the US and China on the global stage.
