Kallas: Booing JD Vance at the Olympics shows European pride

The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, described the booing of US Vice President JD Vance during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan as an expression of "European pride," Euronews reports.

She was responding to an incident in which Vance and his wife briefly appeared on the big screen at the San Siro stadium and were greeted with loud boos from the audience. According to Kallas, this was not a coincidence, but a reaction to long-standing critical statements from the United States towards Europe.

At the same time, she suggested that Europeans are becoming increasingly aware of their own identity and self-confidence. She also recalled Vance's speech at last year's Munich Security Conference, where he criticized the European Union and questioned the existence of a common transatlantic vision of democracy.

At the time, Vance accused the EU of restricting freedom of expression in its fight against propaganda.
