Trump wants to fund the fight for free speech in Europe
Donald Trump's administration plans to fund projects promoting freedom of expression in Western countries that are allies of the US. This was announced by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers during her visit to Europe.
Washington strongly criticizes European rules such as the Digital Services Act and the UK Online Safety Bill, which US officials say restrict freedom of speech and burden US technology companies.
Rogers emphasized that her office will transparently award grants to support "digital freedom." According to media reports, support for think tanks and organizations close to the MAGA movement was also discussed. However, European governments reject claims of censorship and defend their right to regulate the online environment.
The dispute escalated after the US imposed visa sanctions on some European officials and activists involved in the fight against disinformation.
