Gallup to stop publishing polls on politicians' popularity

After more than eight decades, Gallup will stop publishing polls on the support and popularity of political leaders. The company confirmed this to The Hill on Wednesday.

Starting this year, it will stop publishing surveys on how the public evaluates and perceives individual politicians. According to Gallup, this change reflects the evolution of its public research and how it wants to position itself in the field of analytical work.

Gallup says it wants to focus on long-term, methodologically rigorous research on issues and conditions that affect people's lives.

For decades, the president's approval rating has been one of the most cited indicators of how the public evaluates his performance. According to Gallup, Donald Trump's approval rating has been declining in recent months—it reached 47 percent in February last year and less than 37 percent in December's survey.

Gallup emphasized that the decision was not influenced by the White House or the current administration. The company also noted that today it is increasingly focusing on surveys outside of party politics, such as work engagement, views on the spread of artificial intelligence, and public trust and satisfaction with large institutions.
