Pakistan joins Trump's peace council, some countries still hesitant

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will attend the first meeting of the peace council initiated by US President Donald Trump in Washington on February 19.

Originally, it was supposed to oversee the temporary administration of Gaza as part of Trump's plan for the region, but later the White House announced that its mandate would be expanded to include the resolution of global conflicts.

Islamabad claims that it joined the initiative in good faith and as part of its broader support for the Gaza plan in the UN Security Council. The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

However, not all countries have accepted the invitation without reservation. According to several experts, the new council could weaken the role of the United Nations. Washington, on the other hand, says that more than 20 countries have already joined the project.

Pakistan emphasizes that it is not acting alone, but together with other Islamic-Arab countries.
