Putin's emissary heads for talks with Americans

Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is set to hold talks with US officials in Geneva in the coming days.

However, according to a Reuters source, he will not be part of the official Russian delegation at next week's trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the US on ending the war in Ukraine.

Dmitriev heads the Russian part of the working group on economic issues between Moscow and Washington, which suggests that his talks with the Americans could focus on the economic agenda. The Kremlin has also announced that the Russian delegation at the official talks will be led by presidential adviser Vladimir Medinsky.

Geneva is thus once again becoming the venue for sensitive diplomatic contacts between Moscow and Washington at a time of ongoing war in Ukraine.
